RABBITS CLOSE ROAD

Rouge rabbits managed to close part of Dungeness Road by burrowing under the surface resulting in a collapse. Whether it is a protest of some sort by our furry friends is not known or, perhaps, simply the proliferation of burrows throughout the estate, brought about the increased breeding activity, following the closure of the nuclear power station. Local expert and warden of the estate, Owen Leyshon, suggests it is more likely to be due to the lack of interest of the fox community in fluffy bunny food – preferring fish and chips from the local outlets and other gourmet meals provided by a few local residents.

The proliferation of the burrows is however creating a serious hazard to unsuspecting pedestrians finding the beach suddenly without notice, giving way underfoot.

Perhaps, after all, it is a genuine protest and a way of keeping humans off the estate. If so – my full support!!
