A further memorial service for the two Polish airmen who died at Dungeness on April 16th 1941 has been arranged by the local British Legion branch, to take place on Saturday the 18th April 2020 at 11.a.m. It is planned to be a bigger affair than last year, with more dignitaries from
The Polish Embassy and Air Force in attendance – together with involvement from local Cadet forces.
It is also proposed to create a more substantial and permanent memorial to these two young aviators who gave their lives for the sake of freedom. Getting official planning approval could take many months but, in the meantime, it is hoped to attract donations from members of the public as well as larger institutions. A few years ago when it was reported the original site had been devastated many donations were made through this website (Paypal) and again this facility will exist.
At this stage it is only the beginning of the process to create a permanent memorial and suggestions as to what form it will take is very much open to suggestions. However, due to location and sensitive nature of the surroundings, it is anticipated to be a modest structure – probably made out of granite.
For further information on any aspect of the service or memorial please contact, initially, through this website.
